What is a Certified Medication Aide (CMA)?

A CMA is a certified professional trained to administer medications in long-term care and assisted living facilities under appropriate supervision.

CMA certification requires:

  • Completion of a state-approved training program
  • Passing the state certification exam
  • Applying for state recognition

What is an Advanced Certified Medication Aide (ACMA)?

An ACMA is a CMA who has completed additional training to perform advanced medication-related tasks such as respiratory care, gastrostomy care, glucose monitoring, and insulin administration (depending on endorsement).

What is a Gastrostomy / Respiratory ACMA Certification (NG/R ACMA)?

This advanced certification allows CMAs to:

  • Perform gastrostomy (G-tube) care
  • Administer respiratory treatments
  • Support residents with specialized medical needs

What is a Glucose Monitoring & Insulin Administration (GM/IA ACMA) certification?

This certification allows CMAs to:

  • Perform blood glucose monitoring
  • Administer insulin under appropriate supervision

Our CMA/ACMA Courses

Our state-approved medication aide training programs prepare healthcare professionals to safely administer medications and provide specialized care in long-term care and assisted living facilities. We offer comprehensive training with experienced instructors and hands-on clinical practice.

The 56-hour Certified Medication Aide (CMA) program is designed for CNAs certified for at least six months who are ready to expand their role and become eligible for the state certification exam. For those seeking advanced responsibilities, our 20-hour Advanced Certified Medication Aide (ACMA) program includes training in Glucose Monitoring & Insulin Administration (12 hours) and NG & Respiratory care (8 hours), allowing CMAs to further enhance their clinical expertise.

Your Path to CMA/ACMA Certification

STEP 1

Complete State-Approved Training

Successfully complete our CMA or ACMA training program with classroom instruction and clinical practice.

STEP 2

Pass the Certification Exam

Schedule and successfully pass the state certification examination.

STEP 3

Apply for State Recognition

Submit your application and required documentation to receive your official certification.

STEP 4

Begin Your Career

Once certified, you’re ready to work as a CMA or ACMA in long-term care and assisted living facilities.

CMA Continuing Education - Standalone Course

The 8-hour CE Course is held on the first day of each CMA course. This course is for students with an active CMA/ACMA certification. Call for available dates.
